Scenic Switzerland
Day 1 Check-in
at hotel at Zurich-Airport. We meet at 4 pm for cocktails and a briefing.
Travel through the woods – of course by rail – to ‘Top of Zurich’ where we
have our ‘Welcome Dinner’
Day 2 Travel to
St. Gall where we visit the pitoresque old town on foot. We continue
through the hills of ‘Appenzellerland’ and central Switzerland to Lucerne.
Towards the evening we will return to our hotel in Zurich.
Day 3 We leave
Zurich for Landquart where we will take the narrow gauge ‘Rhaetian Railway’
which will take us through the longest
narrow gauge
rail tunnel in the world (app. 13
miles) to the lower Engadin. From there we will follow the river Inn over
bridges and tunnels all the way to St. Moritz.
Day 4 Day
excursion over the Bernina pass (altitiude 2200m) down the Italian
speaking Val Poschiavo to Tirano (altitude 200m). Weather permitting,
return in open coaches to St. Moritz in the afternoon.
Day 5 We follow
the route of the ‘Glacier Express’ to Andermatt from where we descend
through the steep ‘Schölenen gorge’ and over the devils bridge to
Göschenen. From there with the Gotthard railway to the sunny southern part
of Switzerland. Overnight in Locarno.
Day 6 Day at
leisure in Locarno.
Day 7 We start
our last day on another narrow gauge railway and travel through the
romantic Centovalli to Domodosola. Through the Simplon tunnel we reach
Montreux and where the Golden Pass railway is waiting to take us to Spiez.
Return to Zurich with ‘Farewell Dinner’ in the restaurant-car.
