Steam to Indian Hill Stations

Day 1             Arrival in Cochin on the Malabar Coast. Late afternoon cocktail cruise around the magnificent natural harbour. Welcome dinner at the hotel.

Day 2             Visit the historical center of Cochin including the grave of Vasco da Gama and the old synagogue. Towards the evening departure with the Kerala Express train to Coimbatore.

Day 3             One of the highlights of our trip. The Nilgiri Moutain Railway using 1920s steam engines on a rack and pinion system take us upto the Ooty. The train crosses 250 bridges and passes through 16 tunnels.

Day 4             Ooty – Mysore by bus passing through the wildlife sanctuary Bandipur.

Day 5             Mysore – Chennai by Express train.

Day 6             Day at leisure on the beach or for sightseeing. Evening departure by place to Calcutta.

Day 7             There are many interesting sights  and there is an extensive tramway system in Calcutta. In the evening we take the overnight train (couchette) to New Jalpaiguri.

Day 8             Here we board the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) also called the toy train. The 8 hour journey takes us up 6000 ft to Darjeeling. This is an unforgettable experience and another of the highlights of the trip.

Day 9             Sunrise over the Himalaya (wheather permitting).  Descent by Jeep down the hills to the airport of Bagdogra. Flight to Dehli.

Day 10           Day tour by train to Agra to visit the famous Taj Mahal. Farewell dinner in the hotel in Delhi. 

Day 11           Departure back Europe/America..
