I am Thomas Heinz, the founder and owner of Tom’s Rail Travel and I will be your guide on all the organised tours.  I am a German-speaking Swiss and also speak fluent English and French.

After 40 years in the freight-forwarding business, I retired in 2006 in order to focus on my hobby which is “forwarding” people instead of goods!  To this end, I am organising interesting and scenic rail trips.  During my business career, I lived in England, Holland and the USA and also travelled extensively and frequently all over the world.  Whenever the opportunity arose, I was able to discover a country by train, mix with the locals and experience many new cultures and traditions.

For the past 10 years, I have been arranging special rail trips for friends to less-known but scenic areas of Eastern Europe, France, the islands of Corsica and Sardinia, India and Mexico.

There are so many beautiful spots in the world but when it comes to railway engineering and dramatic views, my native Switzerland is difficult to beat!  For this reason, I decided to organise trips – again somewhat off the beaten track – for railway enthusiasts from English-speaking countries such as America.
